In 1957, Dr. Sami Khoury, Chief Surgeon at the Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem and the first Jordanian national to hold the prestigious FRCS certification in surgery, performed a surgical operation on the late King Hussein of Jordan. Shortly thereafter, His Majesty commissioned Dr. Khoury to build a hospital in Amman, the capital of Jordan, to help alleviate the shortage of hospitals in the city, especially within the private sector. On June 22, 1960, Palestine Hospital was inaugurated by the late King Hussein.

Since that time, Palestine Hospital has played a major role in the development of medicine in Jordan and the region. In its early years it was recognized as a leading center for heart and chest surgery as Dr. Sami had a subspecialty in this field. Shortly after opening, it housed the first private multi specialty medical clinics in the country. Many leading Jordanian doctors joined the hospital staff and performed pioneering medical and surgical procedures. On January 30, 1962, His Majesty King Abdullah was born at the hospital.

In the late eighties and early nineties, complete renovation of the hospital was carried out and it became renowned for its neurological and neurosurgical service. It is currently a 50 bed general hospital located in a central area of Amman and is operated as a non-for-profit institution.

Palestine Hospital has a strong and reputable heritage. Throughout its history, it has maintained the highest medical, professional and ethical standards. The tradition of dedication, commitment and selfless service established in 1960 continues to be central to the philosophy of the hospital today; and is guided by Confucius famous saying, It is better to light a small candle than curse the darkness. This tradition is most appreciated by the thousands of patients who have experienced its application through the healing hands of the dedicated hospital staff and the many doctors who have worked at the hospital.

Palestine Hospital was established and maintained by a well known medical family. The hospital staff is strongly committed and a significant proportion of them have been in service for many years. As a consequence, a special homely atmosphere prevails and this maximizes staff cooperation and ensures personalized patient care. Over the past 50 years, the hospital has gained the unwavering trust of the community it serves.

In 2009, the Hospital embarked on a plan to develop into the prime boutique hospital in Jordan. The building will be restructured in such a way that would keep the bed capacity as it is while increasing the space allocation to the different departments through additional building.
